Trip in Shikoku Day3 Shimanto and Shimanami-kaido

Japanese style breakfast at western style hotel😉.

As a sightseeing, we visited one of famous bridges: Iwama-oohashi which doesn’t have the handrails as can be sunk during the Typhoon or heavy rain without damages. We can see a lot of this style of bridge, here in Shimanto river.

This place: Shimanto river is well known for Japanese people, however we found there were not so much to see💦… In addition, I found this river is not the best water quality river in Japan, but NHK(Japanese national broadcasting org.) made one TV program in the past with catch phrase of “The last clear stream river”😑. As it became so famous this calling name, the real river name was also changed according to the fame…

Then we moved to Ehime prefecture to see the Setonaikai(Seto inland sea) and staying at small island: Umashima(Hose island) for spending the new year day. For going to the hotel, we passed the Shimanami-kaido Motorway which connects Shikoku and Honshyu, i dreamed long time to see. Shimanami-kaido itself was completed the construction after 24 years (45 years from the plan) with overcoming numerous issues such as difficult area by archipelago, national park environmental requirements, shipping impacts, etc. I’d like to go Shimanai-kaido again by bicycle🚲 at the next time.

For killing time for waiting for the transport to hotel, we made another sightseeing in Setonaikai. We visited one shrine: Ooyamazumi-shrine: Japanese supreme protector at Oomishima which is an island of Setonaikai. This shrine is located here since 1300 years ago with comphor tree around 2600 years below photos.
